Our Analysis

We give five stars to Castor & Pollux Organix Cat Food for its healthy, natural ingredients and lack of fillers. The company uses USDA certified organic meats in their formulas, which means that the meats are closely inspected and awarded human-grade status. In each formula, organic meat is listed as the first ingredient, and healthy animal-based proteins and essential fatty acids appear quite high on the list as well. Organic brown rice and vegetables are very good natural sources of fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. Taurine aids in cardiovascular health and optimal vision, and the organic flaxseed promotes healthy skin and fur.

The exclusion of corn, wheat, and soy products means that there are no unnecessary carbohydrates or calories. Furthermore, the lack of preservatives, chemicals, artificial colors, and artificial flavors wins our stamp of approval. We highly recommend all of the Organix Cat Food formulas as they use high quality natural ingredients for a nutritious, balanced diet.

The Word on the Street...

Castor & Pollux Organix Cat Food gets very positive reviews from cat owners. They like the fact that this food is made with healthy ingredients and contains no fillers, preservatives, or chemical additives. Many cat owners who have switched to this brand say that their cats are active, happy, and have glossy coats and fewer hairballs.

Some also report that their cats eat less of this food, which is probably due to the fact that the food is very high in protein and natural sources of vitamins. The majority of cats seem to like the taste as well, although a few reviewers reported that their cats just pick at the food.

The only thing that people do not seem to like so much is the cost. A 14.5-pound bag costs approximately $45.00. However, the ingredients are organic and natural, so many pet owners do not mind paying more for better quality. Overall, Organix Cat Food comes highly recommended.

Have been buying Castor and Pollux products for years and was very happy with them.

Last Saturday I bought a bag of dry Ultramix Cat Food for my finicky cat. Immediately after eating she had a violent seizure. Later she ate more and immediately had another violent seizure. She has never had seizures before. Of course, I immediately stopped feeding it to her and there have been no more seizures.

I am reporting this to our state department of agriculture and others so they can investigate the problem.

Has the quality of the food declined since Merrick bought them? All I can say is I am extremely surprised and will never buy another one of their products again.

I have several cats, I was buying blue buffalo grain free for years until my cat Timmy suddenly started to become ill. He became lame and could not walk. I brought him to the vet and spent nearly $700 trying to figure out what was wrong. In the end the vet had no answers. So I searched the web, and found others that had pets with mysterious symptoms with blue buffalo. So I searched for the highest quality food I could buy for him. I found organix chicken pea and Turkey formula, within days he was getting better. A few months in and he was completely back to normal. BUT- then organix changed their formula and the shape of their kibble. Three bags in and he’s displaying the early signs of his mysterious illness again!!!! I’m completely frustrated and hope to see if others are having issues with the changes to the formula. My other cats have also begun to throw up and have dirareah. I Will be researching Newman’s own and switching soon to hopefully stop his progression of illness.

To all the people complaining about Merrick recalls. MERRICK DOG OR CAT FOODS HAVE NEVER BEEN RECALLED so quit spreading your lies or misinformation. Merrick’s recalls lies within their treats not their foods and those have been fewer than almost all on market. I have 5 schnauzers and cannot beleive the difference it has made in them. My 9 yr old has went from a grumpy recluse (we call him Grumpy Gus) to his old puppy form. I will be trying their cat food soon and im positive i will be happy with it.

I am very disappointed at the reformulation of the Natural Ultramix cat food. The cats loved it. I had been looking for a cat food they would like for years and ironically I find it at Big Lots cheap – no wonder, it was being discontinued.

Since this journey has been years in the living, I bought the 15# bag and got home and the cats tore a HOLE IN IT and started munching down before I even got the groceries unpacked, so I immediately went back and bought what was left in stock, two more bags.

In all my years of having cats there has never been a time when they have sat for hours quietly by their food bowl waiting for food. They did with Natural Ultramix with bits of fruit & vegetable. I am not kidding you. HOURS. Just sitting and waiting. And every piece eaten, even a crumb on the food mat could not be found.

Then the supply ran out and it took some looking but I found Natural Ultramix at Petco but lo and behold it wasn’t the same – the cats just smelled it and walked away. What was up? I noticed the bits of fruits & vegetables were gone.

The cats LOVED them. They would fish out those first and then start on the other kibble. It was almost like a game maybe, I don’t know but I know they are not happy anymore and they look like crap. Their coats are duller, they are not as shiny and soft. Something is wrong with this new formula.

It’s been almost two years now and they still haven’t liked what I’ve tried – Organix, other brands (I had already tried BG, Orijen, etc.) – nothing.

If you don’t like the old formula please sell it to another pet food provider and let them make it – our pets deserve something they love. Let me know who gets it!

I was kind of stressed out about fneideg my dog crap because it seemed like such a daunting task of finding truly good food for my little guy. All I knew was the expensive Natures Crap from Science diet was giving my lab-pointer mix really runny poo most of the time. I stumbled across Organix after several days of reading everything I could find about dog food. Amazingly, I found it at my local Jewel, Whole Foods, and Petco, and can easily shop around to get it on sale. Now I buy large bags here on Amazon to get it delivered to my door, for free. My Chaze has been eating this food for about nine months now, and we are pleased that it has not only made his stool very consistent and healthy, his coat is soooo much softer. He’s like a puppy! He also took off almost two months ago and darted out into a busy street, right in front of a car going about 35 mph. It was horrific and tragic, and we didn’t know if he would make it. After very expensive laceration repair surgery that spanned from his little butt, and around his groin, up his waist, almost to his back, he healed miraculously within a few weeks. We are thankful we were fneideg him yummy good nutritious food for so long so that he was healthy and resilient. I highly recommend buying the C T Natural canned dog food (not the Organix) in each of the yummy flavors. The canned Organix is good too, but we favor the Natural canned because it has big juicy pieces of meat, and best of all, veggies like peas and potatoes. I would eat this food in a disaster if it was the last thing we had and there was enough for all of us, and it probably wouldn’t be so bad! I kid. Anyway, to occasionally spice things up, we give a little less dry at two fneidegs, and instead top them with a half a can of the good stuff. This little guy goes insane! I hope they never ever stop making this dog food both the natural and the organic!!!

I believe this company was purchased by Merrick in April. The article I read, said that the new owners will be moving operations to Texas where Merrick is now. merrick has had some recall issues. I wonder if it will soon extend to C and P, Organix, etc. in time.

My cats liked the food for a day and now, I am on the hunt for YET another food. They liked Orijen for three months and now… Ditto for all the wet foods I ahve tried

Just tried this cat food last week. Tried the Blue Buffallo brand but some cats didnt like and they ate around the little healthy nugget pieces. Saw this brand, tried it and all the cats loved. I have feral cats i feed as well so it’s kindof on the expensive side but o’h well.
