Wysong cat food is not listed on the FDA’s pet food recall website, and has not been involved in any recent recalls. However, it’s worth noting that three Wysong dog food formulas are currently on the FDA’s pet food recall list, all of which were recalled in 2010. Wysong Reviews

Wysong Ingredients

The ingredients in Wysong cat food vary according to the specific formula. For example, Wysong has one formula that is “starch-free”, which is currently the only starch-free formula available from any pet food company. Meat is always the first ingredient, and many formulas have many meat products high on their ingredients list. Carbohydrates in many formulas come from oat groats and brown rice. Some formulas do contain added salt. Garlic is included in some Wysong formulas, which is a controversial ingredient for many pet owners.

Wysong Allergies

There do not seem to be any corn, wheat or soy ingredients in the first five ingredients of any Wysong formula. For cats that are sensitive to grains, you may want to choose a grain-free formula to help manage your cat’s allergy symptoms. If your cat has a specific allergy, you should always read the ingredients of any cat food formula.

Wysong Ratings

Customer reviews of Wysong cat food are mostly positive. Many cat owners like the quality of the ingredients in Wysong’s cat food formulas. Also, the recent introduction of a starch-free formula has many cat owners intrigued. The one concern that some cat owners had is that garlic is included in some Wysong formulas. Garlic has been a controversial ingredient, since some health experts have stated that it may be toxic to cats. Overall, however, Wysong seems to have a good reputation among cat owners.

Had been doing well on epigen 90 for a long time, but a reformulation occurred and one of my cats nearly died from life-threatening diarrhea (multiple vet visits, cerenia, subq fluids, immodium, etc) before I figured it out. Ferret reformulation killed some ferrets. Complaints filed with wysong and the FDA. No relief, so I’ve quit wysong. Too bad. It was a good solution for my diabetic cat and the others loved it too.

I have 3 cats that have been eating the dry Wysong epigen chicken for 8 months. They all really liked it. All 3 do not want to eat the latest case with use by 08/26/14. Has anyone else had this issue? I don’t know if they change the ingredients or if something is wrong with it. They loved it until this case.

I also have 3 cats: 2 male Siamese (6 & 14) and a 3 yr old European Burmese female. We have partially switched (about one of 3 meals to Wyson Prdoducts). The only dry formula they would tolerate was Epogen90…but we are always looking for ways to push fluid intake via ultra fresh water and 70% canned food. We also try to rotate between primary proteins and manufacturers (seems random but an actual plan due to need for a relatively healthy GI tract in our cats and protection against unforeseen poor quality in commercial foods I feed our cats). This process produces lots of wasted food and expense. However, every brand we have tried, wet and dry, has periods of variable quality and “mystery” problems. Recently we have changed our cats to Wysong canned Chicken. We are also stepping up to make our own simple foods, just for our cats—not the easiest job since consensus of opinion for a good direction is diverse and not supported fully by any Vets in our area (that we are aware of). In conclusion, Wysong has the best food (we have tried) to produce a healthy outcome in our cats. However, given reviews about prior issues with some of their products per “consumer Blogs”, we are on pins and needles and hope appropriate source and manufacturing practices have permanently changed to minimize chances for a repeat. In addition, any information re producing high quality home cooked recipes would be of great and immediate interest (recipes and exact info for supplementation).

I have been feeding the Wysong Vitality to my cats for 6 years. Wysong just recently changed the formulas to most of their foods.
WARNING!!! My cat immediately developed a food allergy and I had to change her to a different brand. Wysong added about 30 new items to the food so I’m not sure I will ever know what triggered the allergic response. The website did not boldy advertise the change in thier food formulas. Just a caution to everyone!

Hi, we have the same problem with the new Vitality formula. Could you let me know what you changed to and how your cat is doing?

Thanks in advance for your help,
      Lynn

I have been using Wysong for three to four years of my five year old cats life. He had a urinary tract infection his second year and I put him on the uremic and there has been no problem since. I have been using friskies wet food as a supplement and he got fat. He didn’t like the Wysong wet foods, but I will be trying them again since my vet put him on the hills metabolic stuff and the contents are just awful. I may try the epigen ( which I also use) with water mixed in, in lieu of canned food and see what happens with that. I highly recommend Wysong as it seems to be the highest quality. My cats issues with over eating are probably my trial and error more than anything, and my using a high fat commercial food because it was cheaper. The Wysong dry foods are very reasonably priced compared to most other supposedly clean and natural foods. If only my kitty would eat the wet foods it would save me all the problems he’s been having since he is fussy about eating wet food.

I got my wonderful cat from a shelter at 6 months. Within a few months she developed itching and open sores as well as constant ear infections. Finally she was diagnosed with eosinophilic granuloma syndrome. I tried her on a limited diet as sometimes food intolerances can be a trigger. She eats mostly canned venison and fresh buffalo meat. Wysong Epigen Venison is the only dried food that she can tolerate. She loves it. We have extended treat sessions. She will run and hunt through the apartment looking for the little pieces.

I discovered Wysong cat food after many years of searching for something, ANYTHING that could help my wonderful cat Mercury, who had FUS from the age of two until fifteen. This was in the 1980’s, and he had to take antibiotics and urine acidifiers every day and was never well. Specific foods were not so available then, The two that my excellent vet tried did not help and one made him sicker. When someone told me about Wysong Uretic, I found it and started him on it. He was literally CURED almost immediately, never had to take any more medicine, and lived to be nineteen healthy and happy. Since then I have fed all my other cats Vitality and then Geriatrix as they aged, and they all have been healthy and lived long lives- I recently lost Zenobia at almost twenty. I order it from the company directly, and it is more expensive than store brands that do not compare in any way, but I find that they eat less and maintain their proper weight, so it works out well and it is DEFINITELY worth it!

In response to the shipping costs, I think you can order the Wysong Canine/Cat food online at http://www.walmart.com , and pick it up at your local Walmart store. You might want to check to see if you avoid the shiping costs that way.

MY CATS HAVE EATEN WYSONG EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE LAST YEAR & EVEN MY CAT THAT DIED OF LYMPHOMA IN FERBRUARY WAS ABLE TO TOLERATE IT. IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT THEIR PRODUCTS ARE MARKETED AS CANINE/FELINE FORMULAS & ARE NOT EXCLUSIVELY FOR ONE OR THE OTHER. I PURCHASED THE CANNED AU JUS IN CHICKEN, TURKEY, DUCK, RABBIT, & VENISON, THE EPIGEN STARCH-FREE IN CHICKEN, VENISON & 90% PROTEIN, THE NURTURE W/PHEASANT, THE ARCHETYPE, & THE UNCANNY. I PURCHASED IN QUANTITY FOR THE BULK SAVINGS PRICE AND IT WAS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF FOOD AND WAS NOT INEXPENSIVE. PLUS THE COST OF SHIPPING WAS HIGH DUE TO THE FIVE CASES OF CANNED FOOD I ORDERED. HOWEVER, I AM JUST NOW RUNNING OUT OF FOOD FOR MY 2 CATS SO LONG-TERM THE COST IS NOT OUT OF LINE. THEY WOULD NOT TOUCH THE UNCANNY: IT HAS LARGE CHUNKS OF DIFFERENT ITEMS SUCH AS A WHOLE SHRIMP & THIS MAY BE MORE APPROPRIATE FOR DOGS. THEY ALSO SEEMED TO TIRE OF THE AU JUS AND I HAD TO MIX ARCHETYPE OR TUNA FISH IN TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO EAT IT. I DONATED A CASE & A HALF TO THE VET THAT THEY WOULD NOT EAT. THE EPIGEN & ARCHETYPE WERE WINNERS & THIS IS WHAT THEY CONTINUE TO EAT EACH DAY. AS I NOTED BEFORE, THE FOOD IS EXPENSIVE DUE TO THE COST OF SHIPPING BUT IF YOU ARE THOUGHTFUL IN YOUR SELECTION & USE THE COUPONS YOU SHOULD SAVE ENOUGH TO MAKE IT WORTH ORDERING. I BELIEVE THE QUALITY IS HIGH & DESPITE THE LYMPHOMA BOTH CATS TOLERATED THE FOODS WELL AND THEIR COATS IMPROVED. I WOULD RECOMMEND WYSONG. I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND TRYING OUT A FEW OF THEIR PRODUCTS PRIOR TO PURCHASING IN BULK TO BE CERTAIN YOUR PET WILL LIKE THEM.

My cats love the Wysong Nurture with Free Range Pheasant Dry!! I love the not heated – freeze dried pheasant for diversity in their diet. Most of the high protein dry foods out there have seafood, and I suspect an allergy which caused ear problems; this one has no fish!! And, did I mention they love it? It seems to be about the same price per pound as Evo, but is a great deal when you start considering how much freeze dried is. I feed some variety of protein (mostly poultry) and forms (including canned and fresh), and so far the addition of this in the daily rotation has worked really well!!
