Fromm Cat Food Reviews

Fromm Cat Food Ingredients

There are two different types of formulas for cats that are sold under the Fromm name: Fromm Four-Star and Fromm Gold Nutritionals. Both of these product lines are “based on the principles defined by late Dr. WIlliard Roberts” (as stated on the company website). Fromm does have some grain-free cat food, which gets its protein from potatoes and peas. In most cases, the first ingredient in any Fromm formula is a whole meat, and the second is a meat meal. In formulas that are not grain-free, Fromm cat food derives its carbohydrate from sources such as barley, white rice and sweet potatoes.

Fromm Cat Food Allergies

There are no ingredients in Fromm foods that are known to be common allergens in cats. However, your cat’s situation may require you to find a special type of diet with limited ingredients. If your cat has a specific allergy, you should always read the ingredients of any cat food formula.

I feed my kitties the Fromm gold adult cat food (duck flavor). They LOVE it. The first cat I got (my boy who was a kitten) was super gaseous and the pet store recommended I switch to this cat food (I was feeding him Iams and did not realize it was no good for him). Of course I was a little skeptical because it is an expensive cat food and I was sure they were just trying to get me to buy it. But after reading the labels to compare, Fromm really did seem like a better option for my farty boy. I still remember his reaction when I poured the Fromm food into his bowl…he chowed down on it as if I poured an entire bag of cat treats into his bowl. It was obvious he liked the taste of this so much more. And his farting hasn’t been a huge issue since. I’ve been buying it ever since. Yes, it does cost more, but it’s worth it to me.

My 2 Bengal cats love the Fromm dried cat food. However, it’s really expensive, so I use it as treats, and give them each a big handful every night. They know when it’s coming and are there waiting.

Our senior girl kitty loves the Fromm Gold line grain-free Surf and Turf dry food, plus the Fromm canned Duck and Salmon. We switched over to Fromm when Natura started having recalls with the canned California Naturals canned food. We didn’t have any canned food in the recall batch, but we decided that we weren’t going to wait until there were more problems. Our kitty has been eating Fromm for several months now, and she switched over without any problems at all. She likes this Fromm food even better than the Natura brands of foods. We can tell by how much food she eats, as she will eat down to the bottom of her dry food bowl.

It is never good to mix two dry cat foods. They are formulated
to be given as they are. Also, I would never buy Wellness, they
have been involved in so many recalls, including the one few years
back, when thousands of dogs/cats dies from the melamine filler and
they were using Menu Foods (the plant involved in the recall).

    • pbatech

Wellness was not the brand involved in the melamine poisoning, that was IAMS.

  • Brittany

Everything is good about this food to my kitties! I swear they think it’s a treat.
They LOVE the seafood & duck flavors. Sometimes at my pet food store it’s buy one get one free so BIG incentive there!
Because it is QUITE so rich I mix 1/2-1/2 w/ “By Nature” Chicken flavored food and my Cat’s have never been happier or healthier. (Vet approved of course)

The ONLY down side to Fromm is THE PRICE!! Gotta sacrifice to give your babies the best though so I don’t mind!
**no more stinky poop, lots of good play followed by a whole nights sleep tells me the food is doing just right. NO medical problems EVER either!!**

Looked at a sample bag of Fromm’s Cat Food and synthetic vitiam k was listed wondering why it ha snot been taken out

    • Mary

boo boo, (I used to have a German Shepherd named Boo Boo) :) I read an email from Fromm’s to a FB friend about the Syn. Vit. K. She said it has been removed from the food, but because they buy labels in huge lots for pricing discounts, the old labels show the Vit K still in the food. Said it has been out for some time now. Of course, your comment is a year old so you may not see this.

I feed my dog and my cats Fromm and Wellness combined. The best of both worlds.

Fabulous foods. I buy Fromm online since it is hard to find, especially the canned.

As for price it is comparable. It is cheaper then some of the junk food out there like Iams and Science Diet ech…….

Fromm and Wellness is a no brainer.

    • Rhonda

Hi. Could you comment on the value of mixing the two foods together? If they are both high quality, high protein foods, what are you gaining from mixing? Thanks.

      • Mandy

I mix two foods also (Halo grain free and Evo). Because cats can be sensitive to change in dry food, I was always afraid that in case of recall or availability issues, my cat would be left with a sudden unsettling change to a new food. This plan worked out well with the recent Evo recall. I was able to remove the Evo from her diet immediately and she seamlessly transitioned to 100% Halo. Now I have a little time to research alternatives to the Evo, instead of picking a panic product.

        • Ken

Get rid of Natura products altogether. (Evo, California Naturals, Innova). They are owned by Proctor & Gamble now. P&G are know for animal cruelty and animal testing. P&G also owns Iams and Eukanuba. They remove vocal chords from dogs in the kennels that they feed the food to. I am now researching different foods so that I can stop feeding my cats california naturals now. Very unhappy to find out P&G now owns them. I refuse to support a huge corporation that has no business in animal nutrition.

          • Kat

I completely stopped feeding CA Natural. This company has been involved in 2 recalls. I checked with them regarding the bag I had. I was assured it was not included in the recall. Two days later, they had a complete recall. It was too late for my cats. I had a house of sick cats and a queen who aborted her litter. I will NEVER feed ANYTHING from them again!

          • Kim

Hi, I am just switching my cats to a new kibble. I am also concerned about the recalls and P&G owned pet foods. My dogs have alsready been switched to Fromm and NRG, two food which have NEVER been invovled in recalls. I’m switching the cats now as the chicken based kibble they were on, has given my one cat very dry skin and she has been losing hair, so going to all fish diet now. I appreciate all the comments to help make my choice
