Dog Food Recalls For 2010

Every year there are many food recalls that the FDA and the CFIA has to deal with. Their number one priority is letting the public know of any hazards that might be on the market.

 

Dog food is no exception. Keep your dog healthy by making sure you are informed about the latest recalls. To help, here is a list of the following dog food recalls in 2010.

Kroger Co. Dog Food Recalls

Old Yeller Chunk Dog Food & Kroger Value Chunk Dog Food


Kroger Co. In Cincinnati Ohio recalled their 22lb and 50lb bags of Old Yeller Dog Food, and their 15lb and 50lb bags of Kroger Value Chunk Dog Food due to a Possible Aflatoxin Contamination. UPC codes include 1111074566; 1111074563; 1111071559. This recall effects states including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Virginia and West Virginia.

 

Aflatoxin contamination can affect the health of your pets. Symptoms include sluggishness or lethargy, unwillingness to eat, yellowish tint to the eyes and/or gums, and severe or bloody diarrhea. If these symptoms are present after the animal consumes any of the recalled dog food above please consult a veterinarian immediately.

Dog Food Recall of Raw Frozen “Beef Pet Food”


The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) have issued a warning to the public to discard The following Beef Pet Food product have been recalled by the CFIA and PHAC due to Possible E. Coli O157:H7 Contamination.
Beef Pet Food was sold frozen in 500g blocks assembled in 10-unit and 50-unit packages from October 8 to 23, 2010 inclusively. There is a possibility of human contamination as well if you have been in contact with the effected product or an animal who has consumed the effected product. The product may not look or smell contaminated.

Dry Dog Food Recalls


The Blue Buffalo Company in Wilton, Connecticut has recalled four pound, eleven pound and twenty-four pound bag of Blue Wilderness Chicken Flavor Dry Dog Food, eleven and twenty-found pound bags of Blue basic limited ingredient formula salmon and potato dry dog food, and thirty pound bags of blue life protection formula natural chicken and brown rice recipe large breed adult dog food for Possible Excessive Levels of Vitamin D.

 

There have been no long term effects for animals who have consumed the effected product, symptoms are short lived and disappear once the effected product is removed from their diet.

The Hartz Mountain Corporation is recalling Hartz Naturals Real Beef Treats for Dogs due to potential Salmonella contamination.

 

The recall includes 74,700 8 oz bags of Hartz Naturals Real Beef Treats for Dogs, lot code BZ0969101E, UPC number 32700-11519.

 

There is a possibility of human contamination as well. If you have one of these bags of dog treats, you must discard it properly immediately.

This recall includes Iams Veterinary Dry Formulas, all sizes and varieties; Eukanuba Naturally Wild, all sizes and varieties; Eukanuba Pure, all sizes and varieties; and Eukanuba Custom Care Sensitive Skin, all sizes.
